It was 1926 and "The Big World Circus" arrived by train in Hometown, USA. The beloved circus dog, Frankie (named after founder of "The Big World Circus") greets everyone at the entrance of the big red and white tent. Frankie has been traveling with the circus for 9 years. While we think he is about 12 years old, he still has a lot of spunk.
People wander around looking for the very best place to sit. They want to have a good view of all of the acts, where they can see everything! Sitting on the front row will cause them to crane their necks and the back row is much too far. Somewhere towards the middle is ideal.
There is a strong scent of popcorn, roasted peanuts, cotton candy and hay for the animals. You can also smell the stinky horses but no-one seems to care.
Looking around, you can see the excitement and anticipation on everyone's face. In every direction, you can hear the sounds of happy chatter and laughter. The traditional circus music starts and the Master of Ceremonies and founder of the circus, Frankie
enters looking sharp in his tuxedo with his prized monkey named "Monkey" sitting on his shoulder. Monkey plays the cymbals and does other funny tricks while everyone watches in amazement.
There is a second Master of Ceremonies named Pattie. She is newer to the scene but very skilled in her act. She arrives wearing a red tuxedo, a tall black top hat and holds a long black stick which she uses to instruct her tigers and lions. She makes them go from stool to stool, jump through hoops and stand up on their hind legs. She loves them but doesn't put her head in their mouths like some lion tamers do. Instead, she gives them snacks to keep them happy.
Tina, the clown follows. Her costume is so bright with red, blue, white, yellow and purple colors. Her hat has a flower that squirts water at everyone. The children especially adore her. She throws old fashioned bubble gum into the audience while everyone scatters about trying to catch a piece.
Rosemary comes out on her brown horse named Silver. He prances around the tent as she waves her hand. The audience goes wild. She is beautiful. Her smile melts the hearts of all who see her.
Melissa follows Rosemary riding on her elephant named "Sassy". As Sassy prances about, Melissa does a split, handstand and headstand all on her back. She is so flexible. Sassy roars loudly in her elephant talk as she knows all eyes are really on her. Truth be told, Melissa is more of Sassy's sidekick than the other way around.
During the finale, a tiny little car drives to the middle of the stage where 5 clowns climb out. Who knows how they all fit in there! Tina is the last clown to appear and begins waving goodbye as the rest of the circus team joins her.
The crowd departs, elated and full of laughter. They are so glad that they came. The children will sleep well tonight, dreaming of all that they saw at "The Big World Circus"!
