The Biggest Spread All Over
Maybe this guy made a mistake and he’s dancing with a woman who works there. They don’t look like they go together...
His name is Oscar and he’s the first to choose. You know, he looks familiar...he’s probably my brother-in-law. Anyway, he’s fallen in love with her. It was probably that wonderful dress she has on.
Her name is Maria and she is part of the housekeeping team right here at Hillcrest. Oscar is her secret lover. (Hm!) They don’t have a family together, but she has a group that she’s with.
Oscar and Maria are dancing because they like each other and to get their troubles off their minds. They’re also dancing because her parents are celebrating that they’re finally getting rid of her. (I’ve heard stories like that!) But she’s in love with him, too.
There are all kinds of other people there. Are they paid to come there or are they all volunteers? They’re probably volunteers. Or maybe guests. Some are getting their drinks ready. Others are smooching. Oscar’s and Maria’s brothers and sisters are watching, and so is this fella in the back. He’s the suitor that didn’t make it, because he has halitosis.
There are also little children there: a little boy and a little girl. Their names are Susie and Joey. They belong to the group that’s there. Actually, maybe they’re the head of the group: their word is final! Anyway, you can barely see the tips of their noses, they’re so small.
Maria is in charge of Susie and Joey, although they are someone else’s grandchildren. Right now, Susie and Joey are thinking, “Oh, that lady couldn’t be my mother!” They’re waiting for their dinner, and they’re unhappy about the house that their dad picked out. He’s one of the guys in the back of the picture with his back to us. His name is James.
There’s happiness there. Everyone is laughing and it sounds like they’re enjoying themselves. They’re talking; there’s animated conversation. Someone’s saying, “No, not her!” And there’s a rag band playing over the radio: loud, fast, moving music.
