The Cookie Thief – I’ve Been Caught!
A boy named Tommy and a dog named Pete.
Tommy found the dog’s dish and the dog is happy being there but he’s unhappy because Tommy is eating his food. The little dog is really shocked that the boy has found his dog dish. Or, he’s wanting the boy to share.
Pete is looking right at that boy, “Share with me!” There are cookies – 2 dozen – chocolate chip. Tommy snuck a bowl of cookies. There’s a lid on the floor that goes on it.
Pete is waiting for a turn to lick the boy’s cheek. There’s chocolate on his cheek. If the boy washes up the bowl and himself, he won’t be in trouble. The dog might clean him up!
Tommy’s family is a mother, father, a brother and a sister. Tommy is the youngest. The sister is oldest - Annie. The middle brother is Bobby, “Robert James.”
Tommy snuck in the kitchen by himself and got the cookies. He said to Pete, “I got here first!”
The family is in bed or watching TV. Yes, he’ll be in trouble! Tommy is eating “our” dessert! He’ll be in trouble especially if he gets sick.
What’s that drink on the floor next to him? Root Beer. You’re supposed to drink milk with cookies. He wants to eat and drink the stuff that’s not healthy when no one is watching, and the stuff that’s healthy when they are!
The dog is going to run out and get mom and bring her to the kitchen. Mom’s gonna come. She’ll be mad and shocked. Tommy is eating the dessert she had planned for dinner.
Tommy will eat the rest of the cookies before mom comes in. Pete's watching the door. (She’ll say) “Oh, Tommy. Put those cookies away!”
The dog is trying to warn Tommy that Mom is coming. He wants one, too! He says, “Give me a cookie quick!” Of course, Tommy gives him a cookie – just one, maybe two. The cookie in his hand is half eaten so Pete won’t get that cookie.
What will Tommy be when he grows up? Unhealthy! But he and Pete will be fast friends. Tommy will be a baker and he’ll have a candy store. He’ll bake cakes and cookies and he’ll eat them all! He might be a gardener. He’s out climbing and he has holes in his knees. He might want a snack.
When you see cookies, you don’t have to be hungry to eat them!
