The Dream
This woman, she’s in 'The Dream'. Though in the book, it was a man. They made it into a movie, Blown Away it was called. She’s always looking over her shoulder for the Irish though it’s been years since she moved to America. This woman, she reminds me of me. So she’s Evelyn. She’s worried, she’s on the run. From bad men, she’s keeping an eye out for them at each turn. People are yelling behind her, running away. Something is wrong with her leg, that’s why she’s holding it.
I remember seeing you on the television. Thank you for stopping by like this, I know it has been a long time since I last saw your family. Back then, something was wrong with my right foot. (Something is wrong now with my legs, that’s why I keep being moved between these institutions.) Back then, I walked around wearing one shoe and only a sock on the other foot. It was summer, though, so it wasn’t very cold except when it rained and then I would go through two socks a day. But I wanted to speak out, tell your parents I wasn’t a bum, that I was grateful they let me into their house and offered me a warm meal.
