The setting is an apartment building: the pillows look like the type of pillows in an apartment. It takes place at night: The windows are open and it is dark outside. It takes place in the 1940s or the 1930s (the phone looks old).
The characters are Esther and Daniel. They might be husband and wife, or maybe they are lovers. Maybe they want to get on the sofa and have sex. Esther has a decorative bow on her head. Daniel has a device by his ear.
These two people have committed a horrible act and are hiding behind the sofa. (The bow on Esther’s head makes her look more sinister!) They have killed someone. It’s Daniel’s mother-in-law. The body is behind the sofa.
They are looking to see if there is anyone around so they can take the body out of the apartment. They want to get out while it is dark outside.
If there is a rug in front of the sofa, they can roll the body up in the rug and carry it out. They might go down the stairs. But then it would look like they have something to hide. They take the elevator because it is less suspicious.
There is a truck outside. Daniel has the device on his head so he can communicate with the truck driver.
They run into Esther’s brother while trying to get out of the apartment. Esther’s brother is a policeman. He is suspicious because the rug is dripping blood. The policeman accuses them. So they kidnap the policeman.
They drive the truck to the East River in New York. They dump the body and kill the officer and dump his body as well.
Then Daniel and Esther drive to Elkton, Maryland, to get married. They went to Elkton because you can get married without a waiting period. They get married on the spot.
The mother opposed the marriage and that’s why they killed her.
