Story told by Joanne, Jim, Joann, Everett and Jack
They're having a picnic. They're back East and they're outdoors. It's in the fall. It's a family reunion. The mother and father are there, and all the brothers and sisters. The whole family. It's a young family with lots of kids. They can play kickball and baseball and the grownups can play too.
In the background they can hear birds chirping, frogs croaking and utensils rattling.
They'll have hamburgers and hotdogs cooked by the old men - because it's a barbecue and the men do that.
There are a lot of pies to eat - banana cream and coconut cream, and chocolate. Joanne notices there are a lot of cakes too. We named the woman on the left Beth, and said she made the cake in the middle of the picture. Maybe it's a pineapple cake.
When they get done eating Jim C. tells them to "clean up after yourselves" (Jim used to be a park ranger and doesn't want to clean up after them.) They'll wash dishes, clean off the tables and put away the leftovers, adds Jack.
When they get done they'll talk about family history and times past. Next summer they'll come again - if they had a good time. They'll pick a park for next year. Maybe in the redwood trees.
