David is lying in bed in his bedroom, holding a toy boat with another toy ship on his bed cover. His father is leaving on a deployment for the Navy. His overcoat and satchel are at the foot of David's bed. He's saying goodbye to David, and gave his son toy boats to remember him by and to show him that he was going to take a trip on a boat. He's coming back. He leaves periodically. David hates to see his father go away, but he travels for work now and then. This is before David falls asleep, and his father's going to leave very soon. David takes his stuffed animal dog and holds it to comfort him before he falls asleep. He dreams about his father coming home.
