There is tremendous activity is going on in this picture. He’s jumping. He’s jumping over the horse. His music is his way of winning back his horse’s confidence to get back on his horse. He is imposing on his horse. He is awfully damn proud of what he is doing. His name is Johnny Cash. Or Jumping Jack. Mr. Bo jangles. Leaping Willy. Mr. Music Guy. “Patience is a Virtue” (as she looks at the horse). He hasn’t got a rider. He’s waiting for Leaping Willy to jump over him. You can’t tell if there is a horse in this picture. I don’t see much of anything. I see a fire. Leaping Willy has a mother named Mary. She is excited because her son is jumping. There is no father. There is an injury about to happen. How can he jump like that without hurting himself? He is so full of himself and confident that he doesn’t’ need to worry about getting hurt. He isn’t thinking about his horse. There must be a campfire. Red light is on the horse. The horse’s name is “Paint.” Or Roger. Grace says the horse is aged 7 and another says he is 45. And he is retired. Leaping Willy is 27. Leaping Willy comes from a farm in Wyoming. He worked planting potatoes. Leaping Willy is at a racetrack and he’s waiting for another horse to land on him. And he’s got a guitar in his hand. He sings like Elvis Presley.’ He is on his way to work where he is playing songs in the circus. Inside a huge white circus tent. He’s racing trotters. He is a famous radio personality who sings Elvis Presley songs like “Put on My Blue Suede Shoes.” His pants are too tight. The name of his act is Fireside Entertainment. “Snort, snort,” says the horse named Paint. We smell ashes from the fire. And we smell “Doo, doo.” Also a campfire smell. Leaping Willy is heading to a circus to do his Fireside entertainment but he is retiring from his act. Willy is happy about his retirement. He is too young to retire. He is only 27. Willy is in the center of the circus ring inside a big circus tent. Willy walks to the middle of the circle pulling a wagon. It’s not a wagon. It’s a cart. A cart with fresh fruit. Pureed fruit! Fruit inside his cart-the kind of pushcart from the streets of Brooklyn.
Willy is staring at a sea of faces. There are a lot of people there. Is he trying to sell pureed fruit? There are housewives just dying to buy fresh pureed fruit and a Pureed Fruit Cookbook. It’s a sweet dessert fruit he is selling. “Ahhhhh”. It’s not cold. It would melt if it were frozen and drip water along the way. Outside of the tent a large crowd of people are waiting to get into the tent to try this new food. They must tie up their horses before entering the tent. Some come on horse others come by car. Leaping Willy sells a lot of fruit and he is a big tipper. He is about to finish his act. He should close his act with another musical selection that would show off his skill. Something aside from Blue Suede Shoes. Jailhouse Rock! Thank you Willy says to his audience as he is retiring.
Willy needs a makeup artist! Willy has a trailer to bring his horse back to Wyoming. He uses UPS. He will use his horse to ride back home.
He falls off. His horse is suddenly lame so he has to make the rest of the trip on his own steam. He will hitchhike and anyone will see his guitar and stop and pick him up.
The circus took place in Yonkers NY. No, Texas. He must hitchhike 100 miles to get home to Texas. If he’s coming from Yonkers that would be 500+ miles. It’s more than that- more like 1200 miles. He puts the horse in the fruit cart. He hears other cars and coughing. He’s not playing his guitar only holding it. That’s all he ever does. Holds it. He is posing in the same position as the picture on the side of the road- the jumping position. This is how he waits on the side of the road, hitchhiking in this position. He will lose his balance. He falls.
How will he get up? A fair damsel appears “you seem to be in trouble”. She is heaven sent. He is yelling for help. Help! Help! Crying and yelling. The horse disappears. He’s gone. It takes off. Call the horse Doctor! We can end the story here. He is just hanging onto his guitar. He is not playing it. We can’t end the story like this. Will gets in car with the girl and she takes him where SHE wants to go. It is a mystery where they end up. Helen adds they go off into the sunset. The Damsels’ name is Giddy-Up. Alexandra. A title for the story is “The Lonely Cowboy!”
