Jack and Jill are at Jones Beach in New York. It’s summer and they are participating in a race perhaps a marathon, or a relay race. They are wearing racing bathing suits, and have numbers on their ankles. Jack has very muscular legs and looks like he is a strong swimmer and runner, but she doesn’t look very athletic. They have just jumped off a raft out in the water and had to swim into the shore as part of the race. Jack and Jill don’t know one another, they are not partners, because they have different colored contestant numbers on their ankles, and the other contestant who is much younger and running out of the water does not have a partner. However, on her way into the shore Jill has become very tired and she’s injured, she has a cut on her leg. Jack has a big heart and a shiny hiney and he decides to help her to finish this leg of the race so he reaches out his hand and helps her to get to the shore. She is barely making it and he must practically drag her.
The crowd is not the typical beach crowd because they do not have bathing suits on and they are standing all together in one place, so they are obviously spectators. Some of them look like they are rather out of shape and should be swimming and not just observing, especially the woman in red! They are not cheering though, they are holding their breath, concerned about the woman making it to shore. As Jill reaches the sand she falls, is still for a moment and then she starts to laugh and cheer. Jack does a splash dance in the water, and the crowd cheers for both! Jack holds out his hand and helps Jill get up off the beach. She has the cut that she got when she jumped from the raft bandaged. Jack and Jill are exhilarated but exhausted after the event so they leave the beach together, have a beer to relax and celebrate and go to bed (either alone or together, we won’t tell)!
