This is the story of the Miller Family’s very first Family Reunion. It takes place in the fall at City Park in Hagerstown, Maryland. Family members from all over Maryland, Pennsylvania and far out in the country have traveled her to attend the picnic. The two sisters, Popsy and Hoppie Miller have been cooking and preparing all the cakes and pies for the reunion. They like working together and helping each other. They are both mothers and they both know that the mothers do it all! They are smiling because they have tried out the cherry pie and coconut pie to make sure it tastes good. Sometimes at a potluck someone brings something different that nobody else really likes.
There are a lot of family members there and they are all talking and asking about kids and grandkids and what everyone is up to. They want to know how far some people drove to get there. They are telling funny family stories and laughing. The children are playing hide and seek and having a good time. There is even some music to dance to.
When the food is ready one of the men will say the blessing and then everyone will line up and help themselves to the food. If it doesn’t look good, then they will just pass it up and try something else even if it looks different from the way they cook it.
When the day is over everyone will start to hug and say goodbye. They will ask for phone numbers and addresses to stay in touch. The Miller sisters oversee keeping everyone’s addresses. Everyone agrees that they want to get together again next year for another reunion!
