Sam got up one morning and said "my sheep, Sheba, never gets out of her pen, it wouldn't hurt to take her down to the corner deli while I get a cup of coffee". But Sheba said she was too tired to walk all that way, but she would like some fresh air. So Sam said he had just the right thing, they could double up on his bicycle. Sheba loved riding behind Sam on the bike- the cool breeze blowing through her thick, tangled wool felt wonderful. She saw things she hadn't seen in years- green grass growing along the road, monkeys on leashes (this was Portland after all), young girls swirling hoola-hoops.
When they got to the deli, Sam ordered his coffee, and asked Sheba what she wanted- she said she wanted a sprout and carrot sandwich. As she sat and delicately chewed her sandwich, in walked the most magnificent ram. What a surprise! Everyone in the deli was shocked to see not one but two sheep on the same day. Sam and the ram's owner struck up a conversation, as pet owners will do, especially if they have the same animal for a pet. Arrangements were made, and from then on, Sheba and the ram had a weekly play-date. Sometimes they'd meet at the deli for carrot juice, and other times they'd go to the park, just to run and cavort, the way sheep will do. Sam and the other owner struck up a great friendship too, and everyone remained friends from then on.
