The Story of Pete’s Return
Pete sees it snowing, and he decides he wants to go out and play. He sees some neighborhood kids playing with a ball and wanted to play as well. Pete decided to leave the abandoned house. One of the children named Hilda, began playing with Pete until she fell in love with him. Then she decided to take him home. This only caused problems because another child named Dick wanted Pete also. Dick and Hilda got into an argument about who would take Pete home with them. Fortunately, an adult named Mollie saw Hilda and Dick arguing, and intervened before the situation escalated.
Ms. Mollie yelled, "Let the dog decide. Hilda, stand off to the right, and Dick, you stand to the left. I will put Pete in the middle and he will go to whoever he wants to be with."
After a few long seconds, Pete ran over to Hilda and relentlessly wagged his tail. At that moment, Hilda picked him up.
"Okay, it looks like Pete decided to go home with Hilda," Ms. Mollie said.
Hilda began walking home with Pete following her every move. Hilda began thinking that Pete may belong to someone else. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she should ask around the neighborhood to ensure that Pete was ownerless.
As Hilda moved from door to door, a gentleman named Les hollered out, "Hey Pete, there you are boy!" Les yelling for the dog actually startled Hilda, but it causes Pete to switch his attention to Les. Pete sprinted towards Les, and jumped up into his arms. Pete couldn't stop licking his masters' face. Les thanked Hilda for returning his best friend, and they lived happily ever after!
