Grandpa is watching, being the timer at the track. He might lose his pipe if he’s not careful. There is a watch in his hand to keep time. There is a bell and umbrella by his feet. The man behind him is his assistant or coach. The men have coats and hats on, it is rainy, wet and chilly. They are at a high school track event in the Fall in the 1940’s. One young man has his hands up over his head, he thinks he is the winner. His name is Fly Boy, he seems happy. In his head, he is thinking “I’m going to win this meet!” Charlie is next to him, he looks like he fell and hurt his knee. He is the winner. They hear heavy breathing from the runners and cheering from the crowd. The boys will take a shower, then go out and celebrate with dinner at McDonalds.
