Carla challenged her niece Teresa to a 'dessert bake-off' to be held at this year's family reunion.
Each lady would bake six desserts and have a secret ballot box for everyone to vote for their favorite desserts. Family members were able to taste every delicious pie and cake they'd like. The women mixed up their treats so that the family wouldn't know who belonged to what good... No playing favorites here!
For years Carla was the family's favorite chef! She could bake anything for anyone who asked. No one in the family could bake a flakier pie crust or moist German chocolate cake!
That was until her niece Teresa got a set of bakeware for a wedding gift three years ago! Teresa took up baking delightful snacks for her new husband Fred. The new Betty Crocker cookbook that came out in the year 1965 was a great one, and Teresa had to try EVERY recipe atleast once! It made her so happy, every time a pie would turn out just perfect.
"This pie tastes JUST like my mother's sour cherry pie she used to make me when I was a young boy", Fred would smile and shout with each mouthful. Soon, the family would catch word of the new found baker in the family.
During get togethers and around the holidays, everyone in the family brought what they loved to make. Ole' Aunt Carla had FINALLY met her match in the kitchen! People started talking. And eating, twice the amount of goodies...
It was actually Carla's husband who had the idea to hold the bake off of the year at the family reunion this year. He knew that no matter the outcome, he'd have a great time participating as a taste-tester! Each woman could do no wrong!
