Tuckered Out

Edna and Elroy sit on the couch after a long day of delegating their grandchildren to do chores. Louie, Sarah, and Kev are slouched on the floor feeling exhausted. Edna had received a phone call from her daughter asking if Edna would mind watching the children while her daughter was away for the weekend. On Friday, the children arrived and had a wonderful day with their grandparents. Elroy cooked his famous salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and Edna made chocolate chip cookies for dessert. The children scarfed the food down. They had missed their grandparents' meals. When they were younger, they were with their grandparents much more. As they grew older, they had sports practices, Sarah was in band, and then they spent more time with friends. As cookies and milk were enjoyed, Edna had notiiced Louie had left the table without cleaning up his dishes. None of the children offered to help clean up any kitchen mess. They didn't push their chairs in after getting up. Sarah had spilled milk and didn't bother to clean it up. Elroy and Edna were not mad at the children when they realized the mess. But they knew that they were not going to clean up after very capable teenagers. They wondered what the childrens' expectations are at their own home.
Saturday morning everyone woke up and Edna had prepared breakfast; french toast, sausage, and home fries. Elroy had made fresh orange juice for everyone. As everyone was eating, Edna had brought up to the children that they had not cleaned up their plates last night and that someone spilled milk without cleaning it up. Elroy chimed in and said, "Although we are able to still get around great and talk and laugh with you and cook meals, it's always polite to ask your host if they need help with anything such as cooking or cleaning up." The children felt ashamed of themselves that they had forgotten this basic premise. Surely they had been taught this, and they were wondering how they could have been so forgetful to help their grandparents. Edna then said, "We are not punishing you, but today, you will help us with some things around the house that we have been putting off. We will write a list for each of you." The children looked at one another and dreaded what was to come. They didn't argue or fight about the lists- they knew they had to get it done to help their grandparents. Their grandparents had done so much for them. The list was as follows:
