Walking in the Rain

Once upon a
time on a rainy day back in the 1960’s, Mildred was rushing home from her day
of work. Even though it is starting to
get dark, Mildred had to stop by the dime store on her way home. She is hurrying because her feet are getting
wet. She can’t avoid all the puddles as
she crosses the street. Her shoes are
making a screechy-splashy sound.
It isn’t too
cold outside because she isn’t wearing a coat.
She is carrying her pocketbook with her driver’s license. Her shopping list is sticking out of her
pocket. Thank goodness she has her
umbrella! The rain sounds like drums.
Mildred works
in a very old small town with cobble streets, it might be Hagerstown or
Winchester. She is hurrying across the
street to get to her car. Her car might
be a Ford or a Chevy like the ones in the traffic behind her.
When Mildred
gets home, she is going to change out of her wet clothes into a warm dry
sweater. She will fix soup and Chinese food
for herself and her small children.
