What’s Next? The Tale of Bow Wow Wags
This story was written by the residents of Altrusa House on Friday, January 27, 2017
Bow Wow Wags was a good dog. Bow Wow Wags was an Airedale Terrier with whiskers and a cold nose. Bow Wow Wags was not a Super Dog, but Millie wanted him to be.
On an ordinary Saturday morning, Millie, Bow Wow Wags “owner,” put a towel on the dog to keep her warm and dry. Millie wanted to take a picture of Bow Wow as Super Dog. Bow Wow didn’t show any interest in the picture or in being Super Dog. After the picture, Millie left to go to the store to get some of Bow Wow Wags favorite dog food (meat and bones). The store didn’t allow dogs, so she couldn’t bring Bow Wow. But Wags is patient and waited, staring at the door for Millie to return home.
Bow Wow is not happy with the cape. But Wags is looking forward to meat and bones. So she sits, concentrating – focused on the door - to see if food is what is going to happen next. She just sits there on the carpet with the stupid towel. She might move over to the ceramic floor in the kitchen, but that’s about it. Bow Wow is ordinarily very patient and only barks occasionally. Sometimes Millie thinks she has a cat instead of a dog because Bow Wow hardly makes any noise. When Millie arrives home with the food, she removes the cape from Bow Wow. She does not take off the red chain ID tag that has Bow Wow Wag’s name and Millie’s phone number. There is a slight change in plans because Wags needs to go outside.
In the back yard, Wags digs a hole, does her business, and then patiently stands at the door waiting for it to open. When nothing happens, she barks three times.
Inside, Bow Wow Wags, takes her position watching Millie in the kitchen wondering what’s next? ###
