Sirens will be blaring very soon. Tony is on the run with his unexpected hostage, Baloney the sheep. Tony, a master thief has just escaped from the prison in Portland, Oregon! Tony has not only escaped, but has managed to steal the warden's new wristwatch, a bicycle and Baloney the sheep that keeps the prison grass cut so beautifully. Baloney has been awarded high honors for her grass cutting, landscaping the prison lawn so beautifully it has been photographed.
Tony did not like being in prison (who would?) Far too many rules! Be here, do this, eat that, wash now...Tony notices that the warden took off his new watch when he washed his hands, Tony quickly snatches the watch, slides silently down a hall, into the courtyard, spies an unlocked bicycle belonging to one of the guards...well, if it's unlocked it must be asking to be taken, right? Tony jumps onto the bike and off he goes . Oops! Baloney, the sheep decides that HE wants to be free also and leaps right on to Tony's back! Baloney attempts to look as if he always rides on Tony's back.
The two are quite a sight. Tony is thinking he will ride down through Woodburn, pawn the watch, buy a new set of clothes, he will ditch the bike, steal a car and take baloney to the auction in Canby to be sold for meat or a warm coat for someone.
As the two fugitives travel along Tony begins to feel a kinship with Baloney. Baloney is so much like him, he just HAD to escape and grabbed the opportunity when it presented itself. Tony feels like he has never really had a good friend. Tony is so warm and soft, people are waving and smiling as the two whiz by. Once the pair finally arrive in Canby, Tony decides that he will keep Baloney (maybe change her name so she won't be recognized as the award winner she is)Yes, Tony thinks that he and Baloney can settle into a new life, maybe start their own landscaping business in Canby, it IS the Garden Spot, after all...
