Wishful Thinking
We think this is a house in the country, on a dirt road. It's a blue sky and there's no wind because the flag is now blowing. This house has been there for a long time. It's a big house! It has lots of rooms in it and even a room in the attic! There's a garage in back for maybe two cars and a tower beside... maybe the tower is a powerhouse or a mill or a water tower.
It's tall! It has spiral stairs leading to the top.
maybe there's an elevator in there.
It's round to help and climbing all those stairs would be tiring, for sure.
There is a family in that house. There are three boys and four bedrooms. Grandpa is outside to keep an eye on the boys. You have to have adults around to save the kids...to keep an eye on the boys and to tell kids how things are.
Mother is cooking "mmmm". She maybe making soup or potatoes or pasta e fagioli with meatballs. She's not cooking outside. She's inside the big kitchen.
There are two boys in the picture. They are brothers. The older brother's name is Terry and the younger brother's name is Jerry but he might be called, 'peanuts'. The older brother is being protective of the younger brother. He ruffles his brother's hair and says,
"See that windmill over there? If we ask, maybe we'll be able to climb it!"
They live in the cottage down the lane. They were intrigued by the tower and came to see it. The boys are looking for the stairs to get to the top. Maybe an elevator? It could be Halloween because the boys are wearing costumes with bones on them.
"Dem bones, dem bones gonna walk again...
dem bones, dem bones gonna walk again...
dem bones, dem bones gonna walk again...
now hear the word of the Lord!"
The boys...they'll walk up the door of that house and knock on the door and say, "Trick-or-treat!"
There are people sitting on the porch, children on the porch, a man standing and looking things over, maybe pricing the house for sale or maybe taking a picture of the grass or of the children or the people on the porch. There's a party on the porch! The boys are wondering, "Why haven't we been invited?"
The boy's parents come by and tell them go home. But they're allowed to climb the tower! It might not be safe but it's ok if adults are around to watch out.
We thought another title for our story might have been, " Family Adventure.
