Meet our new Executive Director: Ann McQueen!

Ann McQueen is thrilled to be joining the stellar team and board of TimeSlips! Previously, Ann worked for the Office of Aging and People with Disabilities within the Oregon Department of Human Services. Over her nine year tenure, she served as the Community Services and Supports Manager for the Long Term Services and Supports Program, the Administrator of Safety, Oversight and Quality (Long-Term Care Licensing) Unit, and as the program’s Research and Policy Integration Manager.

Prior to that she worked as a policy analyst, a college faculty member, in roles related to various local government programs for older adults, and as an administrator in assisted living/residential care/memory care communities. She is especially interested in the experiences of people living with dementia and in helping to create a world that affords them the respect, dignity, and companionship that all human beings deserve.

“I’ve been an admirer of Anne Basting’s work and TimeSlips for years, and the opportunity to join this team feels like a dream come true for me! The organization is in such an exciting place right now. The team is cohesive and creative, the board is active and engaged, and we have a comprehensive strategic plan to help guide us forward. We are poised for major growth and the ability to infuse creative engagement and meaningful connection into as many caregiver relationships as possible. I can’t wait to get started!”

Ann has a BFA in musical theater, an MS in Communication Studies, and a PhD in Urban Studies – Gerontology. She has presented at various conferences, both locally and nationally on topics related to aging, dementia and dementia care, and the role of humor in the lives of older people living in long-term care settings.

Ann lives with her wonderful and silly 15 year-old daughter, two codependent dogs, and an aloof cat. Her favorite things include Carol Burnett reruns, chocolate chip cookie dough, and snow skiing.

“Ann brings an incredible range of skills to TimeSlips, including deep knowledge of both public and private aging and dementia care systems, and the power of research to drive the uptake of innovation. But no skill is more powerful than her experience of creativity and how it gives people the how and the why to keep going – in care and in life.  I am thrilled to learn from and with her.”
