Artists in Washington County, Oregon, Part of Grant-Funded Music-Based Storytelling

In Partnership with the Washington County Department of Health and Human Services, TimeSlips Creative Storytelling is excited to announce a new program in Washington County, Oregon. With generous funding from Community Health Improvement Program (CHIP) funding, this project will utilize the talents of local musicians in the county trained in TimeSlips to improve access to creative engagement.
The musicians certifying in TimeSlips Creative Storytelling will use those principles to create stories with music interwoven throughout and as a new musical offering. The program will be held with partner Walters Cultural Center in Hillsboro, Oregon, and is inclusive of isolated, underserved, and disadvantaged community stakeholders who are most impacted by health inequalities.

Malderine Birmingham is a singer/songwriter living on the west coast outside of Portland, Oregon. She performs various styles of music from one iconic era to another on guitar and piano. Her wide vocal range bridges generations of music from classic rock to jazz, blues and country. Being a multi-instrumentalist, she often loops the guitar and plays the bells, violin, harmonica or flute. You never know what instrument she’ll bring! She has written and produced 8 albums of original songs featuring various instruments. Her captivating music invites audiences into a world where her voice and creativity shine.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this Timeslips project, learning this new and better way to communicate with those living with dementia. It feels very important to me on many levels. I am looking forward to creating and sharing musical stories with those who might not have many opportunities to engage and be creative with song and I hope these moments help create feelings of joy and inspiration.”
Price Luber, resident of Portland, Oregon, has roots in Los Angeles, Wisconsin, and Texas/Oklahoma. A father of two and a grandfather of four, Price is a lifelong musician in the classical symphonic, African marimba, and percussion/vocals. He utilizes his talents for small ensembles performing jazz, country, roots-rock, blues, and folk. Audiences include restaurants, pubs, fairs, and senior communities (both independent and memory care).Luber is a PSW (Personal Support Worker) for neurodivergent youth as well as a former foreign language teacher (English in West Africa, French in California) and was a former marketing/sales for computer companies and was formerly a professional speaker, trainer, and session animator.

Joseph Aloia has been a guitarist, bassisist, and expert music tutor for over 20 years. His compositions and teaching have been featured across the country from radio stations to universities. Currently, Joseph is writing a book on creative musical improvisation, and performing with ensembles across the Northwest. He is a teacher of Jazz at Pacific University and the principal bassist with the Oregon Symphonic Band. His latest recording project, the “Out There Jazz Suite” is available on all platforms, with singles from the record, “Jackson Bottom Mist” and “Flight” as featured compositions.
