Mark Sterling

Strategic Advisor

Mark Sterling has been an advisor to mission-driven healthcare organizations for over four decades.  He has had a longstanding focus on models to improve care for those underserved by our healthcare system.  Mark co-founded the Project on Advanced Care and Health Policy at Harvard Law School’s Petrie-Flom Center, where he served as inaugural Senior Fellow and now serves on its Advisory Board.  Mark is a senior strategic advisor to the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC) and to Respecting Choices, as well as to other social impact organizations, including Ashoka, where he serves on its Advisory Council. 

Previously, Mark was a partner in the Washington DC and Miami offices of Hogan Lovells, a global law firm, where he was a founding member of both its Health group and its Miami office.  Mark has worked to develop and expand innovative programs focused on healthy aging and end-of-life, including PACE, home care, and hospice programs, and has structured public-private partnerships to establish new biomedical and genomic research institutes.  Mark earlier was the first general counsel and chief strategic officer for a leading health care services organization providing end-of-life care.  

Mark recently was a Senior Fellow at Harvard’s Advanced Leadership Initiative — a full-year in-residence program that selects a small group of senior executive leaders worldwide to enhance their abilities for changemaking and solving pressing societal challenges. Mark holds JD and MPP degrees from The University of Michigan, and was Managing Editor of the Michigan Law Review.  He serves and has served on Boards for nonprofit organizations providing care and support to people with serious illnesses.
